Olivetti round-up

  1. The Praxis 48 was stunning in the sixties, it still stunning now. There was just one problem: It was unreliable in the extreme. The worst part was the carriage return mechanism. And yes, those little keys were used on the Tekne 3 office machine as well as the Editor 4 and 5 series. They were extremely comfortable to type on. It's just really sad that the 48 didn't get the development it deserved. Smith-Corona just whipped it, and for good reason.

  2. I haven't seen a Praxis in person, but it does look impressive. The electrical bits would scare me away from these. I still hope to type on someone else's machine at some point.

My younger daughter has been wanting to learn Ham radio at a local club. Guess I'll need to rummage through your old blog entries.

  3. It sounds like you're going to be using various typewriters for your NaNoWriMo.

I'm thinking of doing the same, although the dependability on my machines vary...

  4. Last year I used an even dozen typewriters. This year I expect to rein that in somewhat and concentrate on the most pleasant to use. Come to think of it several of last year's have been given away already. Strikethru has the classic 12, Nick has the Kmart. I think I posted them all to the typewriter brigade flickr group.

  5. THANKS for the good wishes!

The more I get into typewriters, the more I gravitate towards those which type smoothly, comfortably and dependably for hours, which will be important in November.

I'll probably be doing a lot of typing on my recently-acquired Olympia SM3, which I'm still cleaning and oiling. It should be a good typer!
